S3 Business Management Students ‘Stepwell’ into Learning

StepwellIn preparation for the National 4 Added Value Unit, students from both Business Management classes came together to hear from Steven Watson, Managing Director of Stepwell and currently Senior Vice President of Greenock Chamber of Commerce.

With students in class having first carried out desk research into the business using the company website, Steven was able to share with them the journey he has taken as a local entrepreneur of a social enterprise company and just how the different business segments – including the Cookschool, Progress and Fresh bistro located in the Oakmall – have been used to achieve the mission of ‘surprising and delighting every customer’ and ‘creating significant change moments for individuals and communities’. Sadly time available allowed for only a short Q&A session on the use of social media in advertising.

Next Steps? The information gathered by each student during the presentation will be now be used to help them create their own potential new strategy for the company. Completing this task should also help develop skills in analysing information, problem-solving through the application of theory knowledge in a real-life situation and report writing.

We are very grateful to Steven for giving up his time to inspire and encourage our pupils to think big and also for the invaluable insight into what employers are really looking for from potential employees; including a willingness to learn and being team orientated rather than only task orientated whilst not forgetting to enjoy yourself at work and have fun as you achieve your best.
